A proxy-based model for estimating V30 in the Iberian Peninsula

The time-averaged shear-wave velocity in the upper 30 m of ground, VS30, is a key soil descriptor for estimating site response despite its recognized limitations. It employed both, site-specific probabilistic hazard assessments (PSHAs) and regional seismic codes. This work presents model VS30 Iberian Peninsula as function three proxies: topographic slope, geological age lithology at each site. Tasks accomplished include: 1) gathering existing Vs profiles calculating their VS30; 2) defining an adequate set representative lithological groups; 3) classifying available VS according to these 4) carrying out regression analysis between slopes, groups.
